    Recovery Points

    Hi All,
Yesterday I recovered 3 fourbies from deep sand, my question is what to we hook the bow & strap to?
Two were Nissans, Navaras I think and there was nothing at all to hook it to at the front! The first one I ended up snatching backwards & uphill!, using his towbar and the second I left it to the owner to fix it to something solid, I think he fitted it to the lower front wishbone. A snatch from behind was impossible without burying the RR too! This guy was also towing a trailer, and didn't even have a strap or shackles. Maybe I should have walked away..........but I felt sorry for the guy's wife & kids! Cheers Scott 8)

    Ahhhh

Recovery gear? Is that an option?

Driving lessons? I have driving licence. :?

Recovery points: what planet do you live on?

And so it goes on: Tyre pressures :?:

Most 4wd drivers should park their cars and catch public transport.

I dont think there are many new 4wds that come with any recovery points, let alone front ones. I bought a recovery hook for the disco, but have no idea where to stick it. The bullbar is out of the question. Good question rangie. Matt

Yep where do you fit a recovery hook on a Disco?. With all that plastic spoiler up front.
I have heard of veicles being snatched out by the front axles.
I would be very careful about where you snatch from. As for letting the other guy fit it ti something solid, I would have checked it out myself, after all your life is in danger too it something gives way and it was not as solid as you hoped it to be.

Many years ago I had an HR ute I got stuck on the drop off at low tide, at 3am, on the Mornington Boat ramp with my ute, trailer and boat. No one around to help me , so I called the local towing company.
The Towie fitted his drag chais to something solid under the front of my ute.
He got me out. I paid the $50 and wondered why I had a 'clanging sound' under the front end.
Oh it was only my Stabilizer bar that he had ripped off.

Have a look in the "Common threads" forum in the recovery thread - there may be a relevant link for you there.

(I have also added this thread to the links on that page.)
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Ace, i know the hook you have and ive been looking
at discowhite pondering the same question???

and the only thing i can come up with is to mount it
upside down(on the underneeth side) on the front chassis
rail? either side, but prob on the pass side!
this would reguire the drilling of 2 holes.
the next problem is in the bullbar! because the bar is lower than
the rail, a hole would have to be made in the bar so that the strap
    pulls straight.

apart from that re-design the front bar to incorperate tow points.
on mine the bar only mounts to the outside of the rail buy 2 1/2'' bolts
per side. the way ide do it would be to remove the bar, cut the end caps
out of the chassis rails, make a heavy wall stub to fit inside the rail
and have the end come out level with the bar. and again cut a hole in the bar for attaching the strap to. re mount the bar .

a fair bit of work but better than snatchin of the bar or the diff

I have the TJM winch bar. The bar is rated as a recovery item as the winch bolts straight to it, but there is nowhere, as you say, to really bolt it to the bar, i would have to take it to an engineering place and have it modified. The chassis rails behind is the way to go, just gotta work out how to do it easily. Your idea is good, but i wouldnt know where to start.

Is there anyone on here with a series I disco, with a bullbar who has a recovery point(s) fitted, that arent on the Bull bar. Matt

I was interested in this method for the P38A: Axle Direct Recovery

    See http://www.yican.com.au/ADR/ADRMain.htm

I contacted Philip but he hasn't got manufacture up and running in Australia, yet.

I contacted that bloke about the ADR recovery cable about 2 years ago. He said he was waiting for stock and should have them in a few weeks. Price was going to be something like $250 but, as I said, that was a couple of years ago now. Interesting that he still doesn't have them in stock.
