Diary of TDI Conversion - Day 9 Swap the front axels

    G'day Guys,

Well the day started out raining and had almost given up, so I went to buy some more supplies. I dropped in to talk to Larry and the blue sky's just open with a warm drying sunshine

I have now removed the Disco front axel and replace it with the RR - so I can still move the Disco around and will start to clean and fit both axels tomorrow - weather depending.

While the weather was so good I also managed to get another couple of coats of the chassis black on - she looks like a beute now!!!

Wow! Those are some well knackerd XPCs....

Quick question after those last comments: Did you guys get the TDi RaRo (200 or 300TDi)?

Hi there LRH I've been watching your transformation, and its fascinating.

But I've forgotten what the original mission was, how 'bout a quick explanation?

    Cheers, GQ

I think we only got the Italian job. Labelled "TURBO" on the rear tailgate

I think it was 2.4 litre and had an individual head for each cylinder.

It was slow and didn't last long. It took the 200Tdi in the Defender (no choice there) and the Disco (choice there) to put diesel back in the agenda.

    I will stand corrected.

But if you've ever seen the footage from the Camel Trophy '87 then you might think that these VM Diesel Rangies were actually pretty capable..... OMG that looked like fun 8O

But as to whether we actually got 200 or 300TDi RRs here in AUS, I'm not really sure - I'd like to hear from someone who'd know (I made my own from a 95Disco).

Correct, as far as I am aware Aus only ever got the VM diesel.
