Diary of TDI Conversion - Day 10 Swap the rear axel

    G'day Guys,

After an easy day yesterday with the front axel I had a bitch of a day with the rear axel - no major issues, just the time it took.

I advise anyone who is going to do this, try to do it with a mate.

So she's out and the RR one is now in the Disco

and I'm so impressed with the result of the chassis work I'll post another photo of the final reno'd chassis

Mate there is always an easier way and some goose usually comes up with it once you have finished.

Not that long ago the old man and I swapped the diffs on his old 2A and the new S3 P76 V8.

basically we jacked the vehicle and supported them on the chassis after the axles, then undid the spring hangers and bobs yer auntie jane wheeled them out.

WOuld be a little similar on yours - next time (hope ya never have to) try leaving the wheels on.

    G'day Mick.

I did the front like that and just rolled the complete front end out, however I could not get the back high enough and still feel safe working under the vehicle - safety first!!!

In the end the replacement RR was under in 10 mins - used a fence post to slide the axel under and it was much easier.

Bewdy! I saw the use of a fence post - cheap garage floor rollers work well too.

Gotta say im enjoying reading the saga !

    keep it up mate

Have you though about cutting posting into the Journal pages?

Also do you have a DVD rom on your computer?
