Disco 1 LHR central locking.

Hi,

Has anyone here experienced an intermitent fault with the central locking mechanism ? (Rear, left hand door when using the key in the driver's lock)

Mine will unlock (pushes the button up) but will not lock!

Any advice on a quick and easy fix?
Do the door trims come off easy? Will I break any plastic clips etc?

Thanks

Sean

yeah...the sniper button surround comes loose and jams the button.
stops it from reaching its full travel.

lock the door from the front then see if, on the door in question, you can press the button down any further.

if it is just the button surround, then position it where it should be and superglue it in place so the button can move up and down freely.

let me know how you go.....especially if this doesnt fix it.

You've got to watch those buggers. They'll shoot you if they can.

From OED: snib
chiefly Scottish & Irish

• noun 1 a lock, latch, or fastening for a door or window. 2 a small catch on a lock which holds the bolt in or out.

• verb (snibbed, snibbing) fasten or lock.

— ORIGIN perhaps from Low German snibbe ‘beak-like point’.

Another spelling bee

As to the second part of the question:

Removing the door lining. (the next resort)

Yes you will break some of the clips if you use a clumsy tool.

I figure that a narrow and short paint scraper with a v groove cut in it and positioned either side of the clip would reduce the incidence of breakage.

I have taken mine off a few times using a screw driver as a lever and have broken a few. Fortunately there is redundancy so this loss is not noticeable.
