I concur metal backed ones, with the standard rubber wipers.
added bonus once you have the metal backbone you can change your wipers for $3 by just replacing the wipers

 That's all I have done for a long time, well before Hellspawn, just buy the rubbers and replace them as required. So much cheaper.

Those fancy blades make no difference anyway, 9 blade thingos, twin blades, the coloured ones and all.... just the standard black bits of licorice are just as good if not better than those "wizzbang" types and again... keeps money in your pocket because they cost less.

Big W are the cheapest I've found for the rubbers, though it's been a while since I needed to buy another set... so maybe that's changed.

You have not said what model you need these for.
What most do not realise is the steel wiper blade holder wears out, all the pivot points, for want of a better phrase, wear out. This causes the rubber blade to sit too flat against the screen so even if you fit new blades the screen still does not get as clean as you would expect.

Does the screen ever get as clean as you would expect with Defender wiper blades?
Mine are only marginally better than my old 2A's and 3's. New blades and all!!

Hi folks, wipers really only do just that, they wipe your windscreen.

To get any wipers to do a better job, try cleaning the windscreen thoroughly once every month or so especially if you travel on main roads a lot.

when ever it rains, you get all the road muck thrown up by the vehicles in front of you and your wipers just remove the bulk of it but some sticks to the windscreen and no amount of wiping will get it off.

One of the best ways to clean your windscreen is to use soap filled steel wool. Works a treat and no it will not scratch the glass.

While you are cleaning the glass, give the edge of your blades a good cleaning with the steel wool as well.

    Just a suggestion.

By the way, one thing that wrecks both your windscreen and your blades is using a car wash that has wax in it, the wash and wax cleaners build up a thin coating of wax on the windscreen every time you wash the vehicle and there is no easy way to get it off. That includes using steel wool. Plus it makes the blade’s edge go hard.

When I bought my first Disco, I would wash it every weekend.
After about 6 months, every time it rained, the windscreen wipers would squeak. After lots of investigating and frustration, I determined it was the wax on the windscreen causing the problem.

At the time I only used Selleys products so I rang their enquiry line.
The first thing the guy on the other end said was he wouldn’t use that crap on his car.

He said that the only way to stop the problem was to use a car wash only product to clean the vehicle then use a rub on polish and make sure it doesn't get on any glass.

The only way he reckoned that I could clean the wax off the windscreen was to use tile cleaner and heaps of elbow grease.

    Cheers
