Defender Alarm System

I recently bought a 99MY Defender and a copy of the RAVE WS Manual. The manual makes specific reference to the alarm system on the 99MY Defender and its integration with the othe electronic control modules.

I did not notice an alarm system on mine although thre was an alarm sticker on the drivers window (Can't check as it is still away being repaired ). Was it standard on the Australian model or an option?

it was standard and should have a remote which may have gone missing...
as they do on second hand vehicles.

the alarm should also operate by locking the car with the key....which is easy to test. leave the window down and lock it with the key.
wait about 30 seconds then unlock and open the door WITHOUT using the key. alarm should sound and lights should flash.
switch off by unlocking with the key.

note...alarm works on the horn and not a saparate siren.

Thanks for the info defenderzook. When I get the car back I will do the test you suggest and post the results here.

Tried that defenderzook but nothing happened. Given that it does not have central locking I assume the door lock is not connected to the electrics in any way so it would therefore not arm/disarm the alarm? Is there a visible module that would tell me if there is an alarm fitted?

Definitely nothing to do with car radio - workshop manual talks of alarm module and its integration with the other electronics (engine management, etc). Have found a code in the owners info that confirms there is an alarm installed so will have to pursue this further...

Acctually I dont think I would be too stressed if the car went too given the repair costs I just had to fork out (about $8,000)
