When I fuelled up the County last night, I pumped the tyres up to 50psi (hot). It rode better than I thought but I felt every pothole. I'll adjust them back a bit this arvo before heading up to Ace's

I'm running 8 ply x-plys on the SIII with parabolic springs and good shocks. Even so, I ran similar pressures prior to having the suspension upgrade. The tyres before the suspension upgrade (10plys) lasted 100,000km, the centres wore out sooner because I had them up to 75psi a lot of the time. Note that I run truck steer tyres for on road use on this vehicle, so the same tyres on a truck would be at even higher pressures.
There are no traction problems in the wet.
On the RR I'm running 215/85R16 Sumitomos. The previous tyres were Kumhos (same size) and they lasted around 120,000 km before the belt went on a side wall and buckled the tyre. I figured they had about 6 months of tread left on them, but decided to replace them as a set.
I never (anymore) run retreads. I agree that differant tyres will handle the pressures differently, but I've consistently had better wear and performance by running higher pressures.

RIP Bucko - Riding on Forever
G'day Fellas,
For what its worth, I run a 93 Rangie, and drive 38 front and 40 rear for standard use on or off road, (loaded or unloaded. But with rear poly bags at 15 on-road & 30 off-road) with 24/26 off road.
I run cooper ST tyres, and I find that these pressures work beautifully as described above.
Cheers,
Roger
Interesting - i run the poly bags at 0 pressure off road, the last thing i wanted was stiff suspension, though higher pressures will give more lift and more ground clearance, whats is everyone else doing.
Kev i know you have spoken of bags before?

I use the polyairs to maintain ride height only.Originally posted by landrovermick

If I am loading and or towing I inflate the bags to 30 psi then load the Disco and then reduce the pressures until the vehicle is level.
So if I am off road with load it is the pressure required to maintain that height and keep the departure angle reasonable.
Usually the minimum pressure I run with is 5 to 7 psi. Any less and there is a risk of pinching and puncturing the bag as the coil compresses.
I suspect it compromises the articulation but hell isn't everything a compromise.
Now as for tyre pressures I have used the 4psi rule for freeway stuff.
Off road on corrugated low speed stuff 23 psi all round with a tad more in the rear if loaded suits my BFG's.
Again it depends and I confess that I enjoy experimenting with tyre pressures but you can't change them on the run so again it is a compromise.
