    Broken CV out bush

    Ok guys

Went away last weekend and one of our group broke a CV, he was in a prado and was able to remove the shaft and drive home.
My question is has anyone broke a CV or diff when out on a trip?
In a D1 it was fairly easy to take off the flanges and prop, but in a D2 this is not the case.
Interested to hear about any first hand experiences and how you got around it

In a shed shape Landy, D1 or RRC, it isn't a huge job, take the offending CV and shafts out and the front prop, then lock the centre diff.
If a diff, you need to take the half shafts out and prop shaft off, much the same job as removing a CV, and lock the centre diff.
In a D2 without a centre diff lock, you're calling a tilt tray.
In a D2 w/cdl if the CV goes, either replace it or call a tilt tray. Otherwise the wheel falls off

    Thanks Mark

I was thing of a situation where a tilt tray could not get access and you had to get it out by yourself

D1 & RRC easy, but newer vehicles??

We had this discussion out bush last weekend when we blew the rear diff in a D2. Turned out to be spider gears. We towed him back to flat ground and got under the car to put the CDL in. Then we removed the prop shaft and test drove it on the front diff. He then drove 150km home and shattered the front DC joint. There is the risk the diff could jam and lock the wheels while driving.

The problem would be if the diff or axles were binding what would you do. It is not an easy job to remove the axles beside the track. I guess it would have to be dragged back to a location a flat top could get to it.
    Cheers, David.
