No way.... This is so cool.. Landrover were thinking here.

Defender have front fenders to rest your beer on and a bottle opener...

Can it get any better??

Hey you could make a mesh basket under the rear guards and fill it with beer, then when your in the snow or river crossing it keeps them cool.

Quick what is the number of the patent office.

Hi All,
A snorkel with a Ram head turn 180 deg or in any other position wont stop dust ingress in heavy convoy dust situations, it will decrease it if you are reasonably close behind (catching all the gibbers  ) before the dust disapates too much and stays low then its definately better than the inner guard or engine bay pick ups on most 4wds, but I reckon that air filters are cheaper to replace than headlights and windscreens.

Of course the exception to this is the pathetic placement of the Defender air intake, you dont even need to be in a convoy to suck alot of dust into that a definate case for snorkels in any dirt road driving situation.

The best way if in heavy dust situations is the use of a pre cleaner, I always ran a 7" donaldson for convoy trips and on many occasions it would end up with an inch or two of dust in the clear bowl 8O and the paper filter in the aircleaner was virtually clean as new. I wouldnt reccomend them when doing any highway running because of the restrictive nature, but in the bush and convoy situations they pay for themselves in the first trip.

Glen.

Donaldson do a new pre filter called "Top Spin" http://www.donaldsonfilters.com.au/product...1ID=1&intT2ID=1
I have bought a 9 inch, for $200.
They are said to be very effective and replace the bowl type. they are self cleaning as they have a spinner which throws the dust out a side vent.
Looks a bit chunky on my Rangie but I reckon a snorkel plus a Top Spin will see me with a clean PAPER filter.

Does anyone know why the Troopie snorkel has a round head facing down while all the after market ones have forward facing inlets?

I am not saying it will eliminate dust, but merely reduce it slightly, any reduction is good. Of course noddy's method is the only effective way of reducing or eliminating dust. But i do feel that turning the intake around will eliminate some ingress of dust. Matt

I would have thought the Defenders air intake on the outside of the guard would have been pretty good for sucking clean air?

Does it suck dust up from the front wheel?

I'll have a look around at the 4wd show this weekend.

Ever seen the dust shadow down the side of your car after driving on a dirt road for a while when it is real clean to start with  a Defenders intake is perfectly positioned to suck most of it in 8O
