Thread: will a converted V8 auto transmission fit a TD5?

Don't know if D2's are the same in this respect to Di's - but for D1's the auto output shaft and the adapter case between the auto and the transfer case are different between the V8 and the diesel.
In the D1's the input shaft is the same but you need to swap bellhousings and rebuild the V8 box with a diesel output shaft, then there are the issues of different valving controlling the box - but maybe with the D2's electronics this isn't an issue.
Suggest you try contacting Ashcroft's they're usually pretty good with advice

Pete, this wont work. D2 auto is electronically controlled and the ebay trans is an early RRC/D1 ZF4HP22 and i wouldnt trust it at that price.

Well then, my search continues but at least I've gotten that sorted!

.........how hard would it be to rebuild one of these? I assume that there is a kit one can buy?

Auto guy up here wants to charge me $4000.00 to do it.....F**K ME!!!
