    Old oil disposal

How do you dispose of old oil from home servicing?

Into my local LR mechanic's drums.

Some garbage dumps, e.g., Eastern Creek, take it as do some local servos which have mechanics workshops.

My wife recently saw mentioned in a local paper about Super Cheap Auto taking it if it was in containers.

    Here we are: http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/sup...recycling.aspx

Oddly enough, even though it was in our local paper, the only store in NSW which is doing it appears to be Grafton.

The Supercheap's on the Gold Coast have waste oil disposal bins out front. The Council also takes old oil at the mini waste disposal sites.

Most of the tips etc only take up to 5 or 20L in containers. I've been filling a 44 at home over the years, but its just about reached capacity and the tip won't take it.

If I can afford to buy an island one day, I suppose I could always stuff an insulation batt in the top as a wick and turn it into a light house

your local tip should take up 20 litres for free.....

some local workshops should take 5 litres drums of it...but they don't want too much at once.......
maybe if you have a few 5 litres containers and try different servos to see if they will take 10 litres each.......

the kmart workshops are supposed to accept it as well......but its really up to each individual manager.......

its best to ask them if they accept say 10 litres.......when you are there spending money with them......eg...a rego for example....(depending on which state you are in....)

gravity feed it through a couple of old fuel filters and then put it into your fuel tank a couple of liters at a time or run it through your 2 stroke mower.

Most Supercheap now have a disposal facility.
However do you have any wood that needs oiling? Can be used on furniturem spa wood, decking, garden sleepers, wood stumps etc (helps repel termites) etc.
