    Driving Lights

I have been mulling getting some driving lights for some time now. Yesterday my local ARB store had a sale and I managed to pick up a set of IPF 900 XS in a full kit, wires etc etc all for $ 330 for the pair! Thought that was pretty good value!

My query is, this set includes one 'spot' and one 'wide beam' light. I can see the logic behind this but does anyone on here have any experience with this 'mix'?

I am pretty sure ARB will swap either light, so I can then have either 2 spots or 2 wide beams if I like, but the kit is sold like this so I guess there must be some benefit.

    Cheers, Pete

    What lights do you have?
If you have HID or Bi exon (spelling?) lights then 2 X spots would be the go I think.
Also depends on where you drive, lots of bends a spread beam would be better, lots of straight flat country then spots.
My opinion anyway from many years of bush driving.

As said depends on where your driving . But one of each a good combo.

    I've got 2 FYRLYT's best of both worlds .

True Gary. And the best bit is that you can change the pattern based upon your needs for the night.

    YOLO,

Its a good compromise solution for varied condiitons, sure you will be happy.

Me, finally fired up the Cibie Super Oscar with 75w HID 2 * Spread, more than happy with a 1 km + reach.

Funny how some popular brands don't publish their beam patterns, dont want the comparo
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

    Wide beam and spot

I think that's a very good combination, my old cibie oscars are the same. I like the wide beam. I don't do much night driving and my defender is not that quick.

I like a lot of light close to the car kangroos rarely oblige you and jump out on the road 200 meters or more in front of you. If they do you have time to slow down etc. I find one long range light down the middle of the road plenty, most of my near misses are kangaroos jumping out about 50 meters in front of the car. I hit a kangaroo once in my Renault, 2 x cibie headlights, 2 x cibie oscars, 2 x cibie 95 s, I could see mice jumping across the road 250 meters away.

4 Kanagroos jumped out of the long grass, bushes maybe 30 or 4o meters in front of us. (QLD not mowing the roadsides) . Only got one of them, but totalled one side of the car at the front, but we were able to drive to Brisbane after some roadside repairs etc. ( Rubber mounted radiator and no engine driven fan, the most significant design factors that enabled us to drive on), cheers simmo

This circuit diagram was recently posted by jonesy63 in the D3/D4 area for someone wanting to wire up a pair of LED light bars. Will work the same for your driving lights.

    Cheers .........

Most important, esp. in Sydney, have a system of securing/locking your lights so the low lifes don't pinch them, Regards Frank.
