There's your answer,Denso is the Japanese Brit part. Pat
The 2.7 & 3.0 alternators are obviously different apart from their rated outputs as the 2.7's uses a pwm signal between the ecm and alternator and the 3.0's uses a LIN signal.
It appears that the 3.0's is still made by Denso.

Hi Pat, Denso is the worlds largest alternator manufacturer and the same parts used in Land Rover alternators, are also used in many other makes, BUT, with out the failure rates or the problems.
Go figure ??????
Tim,Toyota's are renowned for alternator failure, you can buy a factory supplied rebuild kit for them it's so common. On a different note thanks for the heads up on the earth problem I had with my headlights, since putting an extra earth wire from the S terminal on the relays they have been working like a charm. Pat
I fitted a 2 metre cable with a 200A fuse to my 3.0's 180A alternator today. The job had been on the to-do list for far too long but was prompted into action by the revelation that its alternator is also a Denso.
Edit: The starter motor cable fuse is 400A not 500A but still way to high for the alternator.

Pretty cheap insurance policy if you ask me. Especially with potential consequences listed by OP! What is worriying as well is the stuff manufacturers do nowdays to save a buck!

Are either of you looking at making a fused alternator lead to fix this problem in the various LR models?

I'm not but perhaps Tim could supply the 35 mm2 cable, fuse, fuse holder and short 35 mm2 cable to the battery.
2 metres is a good length for my D4's 3.0 but TDV8s in RRS and RRV may require different lengths.

Thanks Graeme, because of the weight of the cable, it would probably make it cheaper to buy locally, because of the postage cost.
Hi Pat, I have been doing quite a lot of research on these alternator failures and you are correct, Toyotas are having the same parts failures, the Denso diode pack.
The major difference is that no one I have spoken to about the Toyota failures have had any instantaneous catastrophic failures like Land Rovers have.
The Toyota failures always start with the battery light coming on and the owners are usually able to get to an auto electrician or Toyota service centre, but they are still having a large number of alternator failures.
Do the Toyotas have a fused alternator wire? The 2.7 TDV6 in the Ford Territory does.
Edit: No use rebuilding an alternator that has flattened a battery because the insulation on the windings will have been burnt - quite different to one that has short-circuited for only enough time to blow a fuse.
