300 tDi running without 12V on solenoid?

Given the post about alternator failure, even tough it applies to more modern cars, 300 tDi will also be stopped if there is no 12V on fuel cut of solenoid.

Did anyone make any modifications or has a way to bypass this solenoid so the engine runs without 12V on it?

I understand that there is no lights, indicators....STEREO... if no electrics at all, but it can still get you out of trouble if engine is running.

You can remove the solenoid and yank the plunger end off it and refit if in a worst case scenario.

I reckon it wouldn't be too hard to fit some sort of magneto arrangement to one of the pulleys to provide power to the solenoid.

    solar panel needed!

A friend of mine had a dead alternator on his 300TDi powered RRC about 700km from home. Not having dual batteries he bought a spare battery and drove home. After 400km he swapped batteries and got home without issue including crossing Adelaide. Brakes are electric pump assisted ABS on his so he used them sparsely. Instruments including speedo still worked. If he'd had a solar panel he could have tied it to the roof rack and generated enough power with that to run the needed electrics.
