    optima red top death spiral

have an optima red top 34sli in the rangie

    yesterday was fine

this morning i go to use the vehicle and no power.

put a meter on the start battery and there is only 3.4volts

    bugger!

isolate the battery and after a couple of hours it has itself back to 4.7v

to the best of my knowledge nothing had altered on the vehicle other than the rear bar in that time period.

    unsure of the batteries age

my only charger here is an old aldi unit and it wont kick in till there is 6 volts ...

to me, it looks like the battery has gone belly up...

but why would it build back up to 4.7v over a couple of hours? rising temperature?

i could be wrong, but it almost sounds like there is a load on the battery.
explains why it went down overnight
and why it went back up after you isolated it.

put the charger on it quick and you might be able to revive it.

After /if you can charge it, put a 10amp amp meter across either the pos or neg.
You may have a closed circuit diode in the alternator, or a drain somewhere else eg glovebox light.
How long did it take from charged to dead?

Stick your jumper leads on it and a good battery and see if you can bring the volts up.

Temporarily connect jumper leads from a good battery after the charger has been connected then the good battery can be disconnected as soon as the charger springs into action.
