    Oil pressure gauge install?

    G’day Guys,

Could someone pls tell me what the thread of the oil pressure sender is on a 300 TDI motor?

I wish to install an oil pressure gauge to my RR – now fitted with a lovely 300 TDI motor from a 1997 Disco.

In addition, do I need to use a mechanical or electronic type oil pressure gauge?

    THX in advance,

Id go for a VDO electric, that way you can get a sender with the presure sensor and idiot light in one unit.

I use VDO as they are quality and not bad price...

    THX

Just spoke to a tech guy at Speco in Melbourne and he says either mechanical or electrical - personal preference.

As my idiot light is not reliable (PCB in the dash is worn) I'll do away with the idiot light and use the sender thread to put the electric sender unit in - sounds right?

NOW then - anyone know the thread type and size of a 300 TDI sendor unit?

i'm guessing it is Std size like all pommy cars..

If you go Mech gauge use copper tube... some cheaper use plastic... NO NO... if it bursts do to rubbing or heat then you will loose oil and it will end up everywhere....

    Go Electric... Safer..

I'd prefer electric - don't like the idea of oil under pressue coming into the dash!!!

I would also go electric. the old Rangies like mine have the oil pressure guage there already and they are all electric.

I used a supa crap brand one (electric) for $30 but I will get a better one when I am more financial. The original sender was stuffed and costs about $85 to replace 8O

    Oil press gauge

Given that I'm adding a pressure gauge to my disco, I've done some research:

Air and similar fittings are generally still imperial measures: I went to my local Pirtek and had a chat. The thread on the 300Tdi oil sender is (UPDATE): M10x 1.0 ptich square. That last bit refers to the way it's engineered, as gas fittings are made tapered, so as not to leak. a 1/8 npt t-piece ( note the tapered end)

has the same thread, although some thread tape may be needed to seal it. I think that an identical t-spiece comes off the turbo to feed air to both the waste gate and inj pump. Fittings on most aftermarket gauges are the same. I'm heading towards using a t-piece and keeping the idiot light, and also having the gauge, although I'v scrounged a manual one, with copper pipe fittings.

always use thread tape or sealant for piece of mind....

thread tape is easier to put on and remove...

and dont overtighten anything with tapered threads......

(especially diff plugs....they will wind right through and fall into the diff housing )
