Replaced the spiggot and refitted the box - same problem.
Put the old clutch in and refitted the box - same problem.
Considered preload as a contributing factor. Called MLR, mechanic thought so too. Nearly drove off to buy shims, but decided to
Remove the clutch and pressure plate and refit the box - it didn't spin.
Hmm - obviously clutch
Tried adjusting the clutch pedal again - no difference
Tried bleeding the hydraulics - no difference
Pulled the box out again (because I dislodges the push rod)
Put the box back in again.
With the box in neutral the drum spun @ about 30rpm.
Moved the hand brake drum by hand with the clutch in, could hear it scraping the flywheel.
With no load on (no tailshafts) the clutch engaged within 1 cm.
Began to suspect the pressure plate.
Pulled the box out again, removed the pressure plate and clutch.
Spun the clutch and realised it was <span style="color:red"><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%">BENT</span></span>
I didn't have a sturdy cradle for the gearbox / transfercase assembly when I first tried to fit it. Obviously too much lateral force on the clutch when the gearbox slipped
I'll get a new clutch & pressure plate tomorrow (I hope).
If I was a girl, I'd cry. But this is character building.
I'll let you know how this finishes up.
This is the abridged version, I'm sure the box was fitted about 10 times today.
