Help - Rangie diff into series?
Anyone with "any" info on a complete front axel/diff arrangement from Rangerover/Discovery into Series type Landrover?
These are getting fairly cheap on my local online auction.
I'm looking for a cheap way of putting a disk front end on my F/Control 2A.
I've been told that they are a little wider and will make my tyres protrude but I've gone for smaller tyres anyway due to lack of availability (900.16 to 235/85/16). Someone else has suggested the draglinks are behind the diff on the rangie (I havnt had a chance to look).
I'm not wanting to add coil suspension just thinking about anglegrinding off the coilspring stuff and welding on a axle plate for leafsprings.
Educate me please.
cheers

Hi River,
yeah I got offered a complete rangie front axel for $200 NZ with good swivels, seals and I know the vechicle - Its never been off road. Rust got to the chassis so it wasnt bent in an accident. I figure if its doable I'll get my money back selling the diffhead and putting it to 4.7 to one with a series 3 head. Anyone?

Anyone recall reading an article in one of the british Landrover Owner type magazines a couple of years ago. I got rid of all mine last time I moved.

Yep, I remember LRO critisizing a IIa with RR axles. The wider axles cause the steering arms to fowl the leaf springs and reduce the wheel travel. Also the steering dynamics change. Nothing insurmaountable I guess.

Does your 2a FC have a Sailsbury?
If so keep it and convert them to disks.
You have the the strongest diff LR ever made...Have you compared your CV's to RR ones? They are double the size and bullet proof.
Any info would be for normal Landies which are SPUA wheras yours is SPOA - so therefore almost irrelevant bar steering.
I dont think that disks would be worth the gain - especially as you loose ALL strength in your front axle.
If you do - ship it to me

Also - you would probably have 8 stud wheels?
RR only have 5 stud wheels wth less offset, as well as the hubs/spindles being completely different to house the twig axles that they carry.

Hi DaveS3,
no! I think your thinking of a 101 f/control. Mine is a 1965 109 series 2a.
Env's 4.7 to 1 ratio with same brake shoes and cyclinders as stage 1 v8 series 3. I use an isolated booster rather than the series 3 master cyclinder and booster combo. The F/Control have a rep for rubbish brakes.

Rubbish?
Hi crossy,
even economy from NZ would break your piggy bank. I'm not unhappy with my Env's, just the brakes.
I've read the reason Landrover dropped the env wasnt strength it was cost.
I'm going to do some measuring tomorrow as some one suggested a spacer between standard landrover axels and R/rover swivels might do the trick. This would allow for the different stud groupings. Sound ok in theory but I'll have to put on the thinking cap. I have yet to measure the envs.
cheers
