DirtyDawg. I presume yours is the old Black plastic one.
Mine went also. Replace it with the new 'White' plastic ones.
About $125 to $140 depending on where you buy. ( not Landrover dealers)
I got one from Britishoffroad on the Sunshine coast. They mail order.
4wdrives in Melbourne also have them.
The black plasic ones have a history of failing.
I temp fix on mine by usinf plactic petrol tank repair compound from Supacheap.
It is a 2 part epoxy paste with a flywire reinforcing mesh in the kit.
But you must let it set for 24 hours.
It is only a temp fix.
It'll most probably fail in extreme pressure situations.
Be safe and buy a WHITE plastic one and have piece of mind [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]

be safe and replace it...
the plastic has aged and become brittle.
if you repair it it will only break again further down....

as a bush repair some quick setting two part epoxy will get you on the road again, and you can leave the cap loose to prevent the pressure build up.

you will need to keep an eye on the temp guage....
this is only a temporary repair to get you home.


if you need to top up a hot motor and you get the cap off without burning yourself.....add water slowly while the engine is running....


cold water in a hot engine can cause damage such as a cracked head.
by having the engine running it will mix with what is left in the engine and
slowly cool down the motor rather than a heap of cold water rushing through a hot engine.

You can plastic weld easily yourself.You need a heat gun and you use the riser tube from garden reticulation systems as a "welding rod".You warm the damaged area but avoid melting it,you heat the retic riser to melting point and work it into the repair whilst heating,being careful not to overheat the expansion bottle so it deforms.
I plastic welded a mates expansion tank on an AE Falcoon this way and it worked a treat.

Don't muck around with it they can split a at seam in the middle with no warning and drop all the coolant and cost you an engine, new ones are different, white/cream plastic and stronger, About $120- 140 cheap insurance. Just buy a new one or you will be sorry.
