Top Coating White Knight Rustguard Paint
Hello All,
Does anyone know how compatible White Knight Rustguard paint is to being coated by an automotive paint applied through a air compressor and spray + thinners?
One of my Series III Land Rovers has steel tray sides that were originally colour coded to match Camino Gold. Through decades of use the tray sides look really tired. I am in the process of taking them back to bare metal and using rust converter, then painting them with White Knight Red Oxide. After that I will applying a couple of coats of Golden Yellow. This is so it looks nice for when it gets inspected for registration later this year - cross fingers.
I would in, the future like to colour code the tray sides back to Camino Gold. Will it be a simple job of just lightly sanding the Golden Yellow tray sides and applying the Camino Gold?
I do not have a spray gun. It is easier at the moment to just buy tins White Knight paint that is pre-mixed and has rust protection properties incorporated into the product.
Kind Regards
Lionel

You will find the White knight is probably and enamel paint that uses turps as a thinner. Automotive paint will probably be a different composition. Ie Acrylic lacquer with thinners or a 2 pack paint or an automotive enamel with thinners.
I would ask an automotive paint place as mixing different types of paint finishes can be disastrous with paint reactions of peeling , crazing, orange peeling. etc.

Like Mario says, check with an automotive paint shop.
I have found that White Knight to be at the lower end of the quality range, and prefer to use either Kill Rust, or Dymark.
Bunnings sell Dymark now, and not Kill Rust, but Stratco do. I have found both of these superior products.

You could try ringing the customer service number on the can. I had a similar sort of question a few weeks ago and got a very helpful chemist on the phone who answered all my questions and some.
