300tdi front crank seal leak, after rear, possible ?

    hey all,
just wondering if it's possible (or if anyone has had a similar issue)
where the front crank seal has started leaking, after the REAR has been replaced ?

could the crank be somewhat still slightly settling in, or have moved enough to unsettle the front crank or o ring ?

changed the front/camshaft and timing belt prior to xmas,
and a month ago changed the rear along with a gearbox.

it's only a very small leak, but I haven't taken the timing cover off yet.

If the front seal is leaking then oil is probably coating the timing belt, did you replace the O ring as well ?

Fixing the rear oil leak may have increased sump pressure enough to send the oil to the nearest escape route, which is probably why your front seal is now leaking, it must have been on the verge of failing anyway, Regards Frank.

How many ks on the engine? Does it have excessive blowby?

Try cleaning out the breather, and making sure there are no blockages

Will the oil cap stay put if you undo it, if not that would be excessive.

You may have a dropped or flogged thrust bearing, put a lever under the harmonic ballancer and gently pry to check for crank shaft end float
