Take it to a different dealer for a 2nd opinion. Getting worse doesn't seem normal.
My younger bro in Sidney has the above 2013 RRS 3ltr Autobio. and is really peed that all the stealer will say about it blowing black smoke on hard acceleration is that "It's a feature of the car"!!!!
Doesn't sound right to him (or me) and although he reckons it's overall a great vehicle with the normal LR eccentricities and has had a few trips back to the stealer, he really hates looking in the mirror and seeing his own smoke screen out the back.
It's his first diesel as well after 40 years of V8 Fairlanes and he's unimpressed with both the seeming lack of acceleration after the V8s and smoke.
Anybody recommend a very good tuner in the big smoke, which is getting smokier!
No good saying "Take yer foot off" as he loves a good sprint away from lights and never worries about fuel economy.
Cheers.

He's just told me if the stealer doesn't fix it he'll buy a Bentley as soon as the warranty runs out, if not before. Thinks it's a disgrace a vehicle can be produced these days which creates so much pollution!!!
Wish I had his bank balance.
Cheers.

It's always going to blow a bit of smoke when you stomp on it; it's a diesel. I hope he enjoys the Bentley - which will of course create just as much pollution, but of a smaller particulate size so it won't be visible out the rear view mirror.
3 litres roll coal big time if you stomp it... sounds like he does just that.
Consider that it weighs a tonne more than a Fairlane, has a lot less 'cubes' and two turbos to spool up, AFTER it's had a little think about things (pregnant pause) and it becomes understandable...
Talk to Graeme Cooper Automotive or Davis Performance Landies. Or even one of the UK tuners (BAS comes to mind), there's a few tunes out there for them...
Thanks for the replies. He's always been lead footed and loved the V8 grunt of the Fairlanes.
Maybe he'll slow up now he's nearly 70.......but I wouldn't bet on it!
AlanH.
Yeah, I probably wouldn't bet on it either. I remember back in 2005 going to the Cunderdin airshow following some ex-RAAF pilots who learned to fly there in WWII. They were staying in our hotel and were all aged in their 80's. They said that they might drive a bit too slow for us 'youngies' but to just hang in there. Hang in there is right - they took off like scalded cats and I had a hard time keeping up with them, all the way from Northam to Cunderdin. Once a fighter pilot, always a fighter pilot I guess! Ha Ha
He's always been a fast driver, bike and car. I remember riding with him on his BSA and in his 1275 Mini Cooper S, when he was in his late teens.....no wonder my hairs disappearing fast just thinking about it.
Got given the name of a Landie nut by an ex director of OL recently who may be able to assist him, Gordon Shaw in OL South Sidney.
He may already be known to you lot on the other side of the country.
AlanH.
Gordon is good bloke, but I'm not sure what it is he'll be helping with?
I'd go and speak to Ward at Coopers if I was him...
Update on the smoke blowing RRS. Bro went to one of the 2 Sidneyside companies recommended and got the following response from 2 scruffy oiks at the front count.
"Whadyawant?" So he told them a bit about the prob......and one looked at the other and said "You always wanna be boss, so here's ya chance" and walked off without another word. The boss was at lunch apparently.
The 2 oiks were offensive in attitude and the front office was a "tip".
Now younger bro worked very hard with his very successful business for many years and now enjoys the best that life can give and good on him for that.
One thing he always insisted on was a pleasant attitude to potential customers although as him and his Mrs were nearly always out front, that wasn't hard.
Plus the office was comfortable with a good coffee machine etc just in case the people had to wait a while.
No way would he even let either of these two even sit in his vehicle they looked so filthy, let alone put their grubby hands on it!
So it's back to the stealers where they are pleasantly well mannered even if they are expensive.
AlanH.
PS. Moons ago I met a lad up in Fitzroy who'd done his apprenticeship with brothers company and he reckoned it was a pleasure to work for a bloke who knew the job and wouldn't ask anyone to do what he wouldn't/couldn't do. And who treated his workforce and customers right.
