Thumbs up TD5 CAM PLUG FIX!

Just playing around in the workshop, noticed cam plug still leaking so went hunting for an o ring in the store.

Turns out Caterpillar part number 2N-5243 is the perfect fit!!!
Pull off old o ring, stretch over new Cat one, lightly smear oil over the o ring and she snaps back tight as a drum!!

    Cheers

    Hi Kev

I got 2 from my local oil seal / bearing place in Melb for nics - happy to measure my spare one also if you need. I smeared mine with a little water pump spec silicone instead of oil, (which made it slide in easily).

    Go Vienna Green

    Dont ever do this!

The silicone now has prevented the o'ring from moving correctly in its housing and sealing properly.

What you have essentially done is just siliconed the hole, may as well not put the o'ring in place.
Doing this practice can accelerate leakage next time.

Simon, before you pull it back out, was it silicone or silicone grease? Silicone grease will be ok, silicone sealant as Tombie says would be bad.

It was a very light smear of silicone (not silicone grease) to help it slide in, so I'll clean & re-seat it.

I think as punishment for using silicone and as a measure to ensure you dont do it again, I think a penalty is in order, saaaaaayyyyy your bullbar..... take it off, send it to me and we will all forgive you!!
