So he sold 99 sets if I'm reading that right?
Hey all, i just spoke to Suspension Stuff today in regards to FLEXY COILS, as there is a number of forum members here that have recomended them.
The fella reported he only had a 3" lift set avail in stock for a defender...and that was it...no plan to make anymore indefinatly due to lack of sales and him needing to have 100 sets made at a time.
Is there anyone else that makes them???
So he sold 99 sets if I'm reading that right?
Is that for Defender only or for flexi-coils all together?
Cheers
Slunnie

Damn, I was hoping to get a set in the near future. Unless someone is hoarding them all, just waiting until we all cry out that we want a set...![]()
As an alternative give Dobinsons in Bundy QLD a call. Dobinsons sell a flexy coil for the defender off the shelf. Dobinsons once upon a time made the flexy coils for Suspension Stuff. Not sure if they still do.
With the 11.5" travel shock the Dobinson +3" rear coil (540mm free length) will dislocate enough to possibly pop out of the hanger. From info i collected when selecting my coils the Suspension stuff +3" rear coil was 530mm free length.
Obvious options are to retain the coil, relocation cones, custom coils or a shorter shock (say 10" travel).
You might struggle to find a coil with enough free length to accommodate a long travel shock and have the coil behave on-road. There will be an engineering limit to find the balance between load rating, free length, compressed length and wire diameter all the while behaving in a predictable way on-road.

hey MLD,
I did end up calling both Dobinsons and Kings...as they have both made flexy's for suspension stuff in the past.
I got a negative from both Dobinsons and Kings on the FLEXY COILS...stating that they wouldnt even be willing to make a custom one off set for me...as it just wasnt feasible unless it was a run of at least 20 they said.
the best springs i can find in terms off free legnth etc to suit max articulation CAPTURED, are Old MAn Emu.
here is the data from OME i got below on some of their springs...the 30mm lift ones i just added to copare spring rates and free legnths agains the ones i think may be the best (these are circled in red)
Rick the response from Dobinson and King is not surprising. Without wishing to offend, you asked the incorrect question. I fell into the same trap. I asked for Flexi coils and Dobinson said the line what you were told. I then asked for coils with specs similar to what I wanted and bingo they came up with a model number which is a Flexi coil just not called that. That said Dobinson was going to make me a custom one off coil to my specs. I was talked into the off the shelf coil by another customer service person. A decision I now regret because I should have stuck to my own specs. I had to fit air helper bags to firm up the rear which is what the custom coil would have offered.
The front highlighted coil in the OME range has the same lbs rating as the OEM 130 coil. It's not as long as the Dobinson 3" coil so it should give a real world 2" lift.
The rear highlighted coil in the OME range is considerably lower rating than a OEM 110 coil (about 330 lbs) which will likely translate into a very very soft and undesirably rear end on the road. I have 300 lbs to 600kg load (340lbs over 600 kg load) in the rear of a 130 and even empty the rear twerked and shifted around under cornering load. Not pleasant to drive a tinny in a storm. OEM for a 130 is 420lbs which is what I wanted for my custom coil.
Getting coils to your satisfaction is like searching for the meaning of life, some people are satisfied with a broad brush description, other people won't rest until nirvana.

Ps, with the specs you posted in combination with a 11.5" shock you will have dislocation by a few inches at the extremes. You'll need robust retainers for the top of your coil to the hanger or consider shorter shocks to ensure the coil stays seated. MLD
