Diary of TDI Conversion - Day 24 Disco Interior

    G'day Guys,

The donor Disco came with a very good set of seats and carpets - was a pity to waste them!!!

I decided to try and install as much of the interior as possible starting with the carpets and the sound proofing then the seats.

The original RR rear seats used a different locking mechanism

These were then changed over so the RR locking mechanism was fitted to the Disco rear seats

    And they all fitted nicely

As my RR was an EFI model it had the seat bases molded as part of the floor, the install of the Disco seats were a direct swap. The seatbelts and trims were also installed.

I just need to find some matching grey door trims now!!!

    Mark,

You have been a busy chap.

I'm looking like a coal miner covered in county chassis paint dust still wire brushing after all these weekends.

Do you intend to replace the RR dash and center console with the Disco's?

Do the door linings for the Disco fit the RR?

I want to keep the RR dash - I actually like the dash, especially once I have all my gauges accross the centre and the radios installed.

As for the door panels - I'm on the look out for some good grey door panels for an 87 model RR!!!

I thought of fitting the Disco door panels - but looks a bugger to fit

CJ's County has crossed the Alps (Hannibal like).

We expect that the chassis will be painted this weekend. It seems a shame after all the wire brushing back to bare metal and fixing up rogue spots of rust to paint it black.

    Much welding as well.

All the body mounts have been modified. 2" vertically.

That chassis seems longer than 110" and complicated without the body on it.

The fire wall has been renovated (=rust) and for additional clearance for the new donk. Good thing Linda's feet are small.

    It will be grand.

All the time (one and a half days each weekend) John and I talk about the next project: RR chassis Series 3 bits and the V8.

Lost forever and stuck in a shed somewhere

I'm going to take a couple of month off the LR building and do some work around our home - keeps the misses happy for a while as I paint the bathroom, finish off the room for the gym etc etc

but I hope to be abusing my work on my RR very soon!!!

Then in around September I will start back on the D100 project - the RR was always a practice run
