    Defender Alarm Remote

When pulling out the instrument panel I found the receiver for the Land Rover alarm installed on my 99 Defender (which I bought second hand without the alarm remote or advice there was an alarm fitted). I have the alarm code number with the car documentation and need to buy the remote for it but have heard that they are very expensive from LR.

Is there a third party supplier for these?

I bought a second hand fob for my Freelander from Triumph Rover Spares in Lonsdale in SA. $45 Stealers wanted $195 + $70 to code it.

I assume the Defender has the same 2 button fob as the same Freelanders and Discos of the same vintage.

They are constantly advertised on E-bay UK but you need to know what frequency the system runs on. Much of the Landrover Australia alarms are 315mHz where the same alarms in the UK are 433mHz - so if buying from overseas you need to be careful. Most of them are 433 mHz but the 315mhz do pop up from time to time.

Thanks Gazz. Actually mine is 433MHz so maybe the UK eBay could be worth a try...

Not wanting to be difficult but how do you know it is 433Mhz and not 315Mhz?

Does your alarm use the 2 button fob? If it is a 2 button 433 Mhz fob it will be a Lucas TXA Key Fob - if it is a 315Mhz one it is a Lucas TXC Key fob.

If you definitely need a 433Mhz, 2 key fob then this may be your lucky day - I have one that you can have for nicks - I don't need it.

I don't know if it works - it should do - the case is not the greatest and it will need a battery and will need to be coded by a Landrover Dealer to your alarm - will get you out of trouble until you can get a good one.

E-mail me on garry_c@tpg.com.au with your address if you want me to send it to you on Tuesday.

    Cheers

Can you post some infor or a pic of the unit in the dash and were exactly to find and identify. I have a 2000 Defender and did not know that they had an alarm system on them. I was just about to go out and buy one. Are these units conectable to central Locking?
I do not understand why LR would fit them and then not actually use them.
    Thanks

    Alarms and Fobs

    Howdy:

I found this a little while ago whilst researching an alarm for my Disco

    http://www.remotekey.co.uk/defender.htm

Their fobs were 40pds + 5 pds Airmail (No VAT) from UK. If you look on their site, they have a send-it-to-us service, but the overall price is a little steep compared with fitting an aftermarket alarm.

its interesting to see there is no price variance in these things. When we got ours it only had one remote, that eventually fell apart. Tried every aftermarket one I could lay my hands on, (the dick smith ones don't cover that frequency)
Ended up the dealer come stealer( like that term) got two in for me, couldn't code them as per instructions, so another cost, ended up being the same as your prices.
Funny the dealer around here told me to get it over to them soon as it was due for a service and the tappets badly needed adjusting as well as few other other things they noticed when taking it down to the 'coder'.
Hows that for 'touting ' for business.( Its used to be illegal for Tow Truck drivers here in NSW) Didn't go back and the 'tappet' noise, cold diesel knock that goes away when its warm.

I believe the links to the photos did not work. So you can get them by entering ftp://ftp.small.com.au in your web browser and you will find them - they are Alarm Module (1) and Alarm Module (4).

The stealer initially quoted $165 which I foolishly assumed included GST and coding to actually make it work - OK I thought and ordered.

When I went to pick it up they wanted $195 for it and I would have to go over to the service department and pay $70 to get it coded to the car. I spat the dummy in a big way and the service guy said he would do it for free - but I had enough and just walked out and bought a second hand one for $45. Surprisingly the stealer will not let me order parts any more without paying for them up front.

I also went to the Rover Dealer (as Rover Cars not Landrover) as their cars use the same alarms and fobs - they wanted $350 for just the fob so maybe our stealers are not the worst of the bunch.
