    S1 Discovery hand brake

Can anyone shed any light on this problem? I removed the centre console as per RAVE today, part of this procedure included removing the clevis pin from the hand brake lever to disconnect the cable. Upon refitting everything the ratchet no longer works on the hand brake...effectively I have no hand brake now. It appears that the 'dog' that clicks into the ratchet teeth works in an eccentric arc that is operated by the button via a rod but is no longer under pressure to locate in the ratchet.

    thanks in advance

It sounds like a piece has fallen out of the lever. Check under the car or on your mats etc. Could be a spring or the pawl itself. Just a guess.

    It's a PIA. :x

Happened last time I took the console out.

I can't tell you how I fixed it...nothing was broken...I just fiddled with it and through trial and error the toothed cam and its counterpart were in the right place at the right time. :?

    Keep trying.

Have a look in the lever, see the rod running down to the bit that sits in the teeth, push that a little further into the lever. It worked for me.

Also try undoing the button on the end of the H/brake to relocate the rod.

Similar thing has also happened to me and this fixed it.

Thanks heaps blokes...I'll give it a go. I'm pretty sure nothing's fallen off . By looking at it the rod has to sit up in the handle so the clevis pin can pass through the cable end, I've just gotta get the rod back in the right position.....aaargh!!
