    Ground Anchors

Has anyone had anything to do with ground anchors just in case one gets stuck with no trees about.

Only been around them when used in competition ect.
Quite a large thing to be carrying when driving.
That being said, it all depends on what type of driving you do be it rocks / mud / forrest / sand etc...

I carry 2 winch extensions and a tree trunk protector as well as the rest of my gear. This setup gets me close to almost 90m of winch space which is plenty for the places i drive.

ARB / Other 4wd retail out lets sell them. I would personally get one made up using 10mm construction alloy for the shovel and thinner box section for the rest 8)

    YMMV

    Dave.

Star pickets bound together can do the same trick.

Not always is there trees about - the Simpson Desert is a very good case in point, as is Stockton Beach. Burying the spare tyre works, but it is a lot oof physical work.

The ARB ones seem to be the better ones on the market. But as I stated above, if you drive some star pickets in, twine them together and winch from them, they do a fine job. And you can just tie them down on your roof-rack easily enough!

    Cheers

4WD anchors are expensive so I've heard that some people use Danforth style boat anchors.
