    Defender Td5 RF Noise

I have installed an RFDS HF radio in my 99 Td5 Defender Extreme and the interference from the vehicle is, well, extreme!

Has anyone actually solved this problem? Many have views on the topic but I am looking for info on any proven solutions.

    Thanks, Howard

    Hi Howard
Could be worth a call to Codan(or your radios manufacturer).I have read its the EFI injectors that cause the problem, also a problem on the Landcruisers with EFI diesel.
Some sort of suppressor could be needed.

Its a common problem with EFIs. Apparently the Army weren't too impressed either.

Just tune in with the engine off. And turn the flouros off too.

    Howard,
Check out this link to Barrett. It may be what you require.

LRA did solve the RFI problem back just before the Ford takeover, as the ADF were looking at re-powering the existing vehicles with the TD5.
A mate was in charge of the job, and a new harness was produced that solved the problem.
Solihull had tried and thrown vast sums at it over a number of years, all to no avail, and LRA with an outside consultant did it for A$100,000 !
The Poms wouldn't believe it, so he had to fly over there with the kit to prove it to them.

Might be worthwhile ringing Land Rover and asking. Might still be someone there that knows something. :?

Thanks all for the replies. I looked at the barret info but their info for pulse noise was related to petrol engines unfortunately.

I guess the last reply has the most promise in this case so I will give LRA a ring and see what they have to say.

On reflection Rick, any chance your mate could give some clues to post here without breaching any confidentiality clauses?
