    Post D2 V8 Surging cruise control. Here's a fix.

    Hi all,
When i bought my 2003 D2 v8 not that long ago, the cruise control wasn't smooth, was surging badly trying to hold the speed and would accelerate abruptly.

I tried to find a fix on the net to no avail, so armed with a Nanocom and some tools i manage to fix the problem. Now my cruise control is smooth as, cant even notice its on. I really couldn't believe the difference lol. I don't know if others have this problem, but here is how I fixed it, this should work on all rover models with the same Hella CC setup:

First adjust throttle arm clearance, as stated in the workshop manual.
For the main throttle cable this should be set too: 0.5mm +/- 0.4mm (so nearly touching)
Then the cruise control cable : 4.0mm to 4.5mm (this is quite a big gap)

Then get a Nanocom, accessing the Hella CC ECM can be tricky. I found it best to make sure the CC switch is on and the engine is running. Click on the Hella CC ECM:

    Then go to settings:

Scroll across to the last page:

    Till it looks like this:

Now make sure that the "vehicle tune" is the model of you rover. Available options are: ECU default, range rover 4.0, rage rover 4.6, discovery 2 4.0, discovery 2 4.6 and unknown.
Now mine was set the "ECU Default". According to the paperwork found on Nanocomm's website, the "default map" and the "discovery 2 4.0" is very different.

I don't know why mine was not set correct for the specific model, and I'm not sure if this is how it came from the factory, but anyway.
So use the green arrow icon and go thru the list till your model comes up, then press "write settings"

All done, i hope that this helps some people out. Let me know how you go

    Cheers

Just checked my P38, it said ECU Default as well. I put the 4.6 option in and hit write settings.

I'm off on a trip north (again) today, I'll let you know if it fixes my P38's 'hunting' cruise control as well!

    Thanks for the tip!

So after a 250km drive I can say the Cruise Control performs 'better' but still hunts over about a 6km/h range. I'll try a different setting (maybe they are configured differently?).

Hi there, well that's good its a little better. Looking at the paperwork from blackbox there is different values for the different models, but it doesn't say exactly what they mean.
Make sure you adjust the cables as well, but you probably have all ready done that anyway.

    Cheers

That's right, mine were pretty well spot on when I checked them.
