they should just autorun and load the acrobat 4 runtime on the cd
mine run fine on 2 pc's with acrobat 7 pro loaded
do you have admin rights on the pc?
Hello all,
This one is for the PC Gurus out there, Im trying to run my Rave 2 CD on a PC running XP Home and acrobat 7, when I click on Rave.exe I get a box stating "16 bit MS-DOS subsystem, Rave.exe The NTVDM CPU has
ecountered an illegal instruction. CS:0df2 IP:1b00 OP:8c 00 00 00 Choose close to terminate the application" If I try to open any acrobat .PDF files from the CD, Acrobat reader 7 opens with an error stating file not recognized. this last bit would be due to files on disk being encrypted, which I would assume rave.exe is meant to decrypt files and make them readable. I contacted Dave at AULRO who kindly sent another CD, with the same problem occuring, tried the CD's on 3 different PC's with the same error. This has got me stumped, anyone else had this problem and found a workaround.ops:

Howdy:
I had some teething problems with my rave cd, mine came from Canada before I found out they were offered here.
First of all, RAVE generally is an older program, that was meant to run under windows 98 and before.
Second, it is an all-in-one package. It won't let you read files in the right format direct from CD using later versions of acrobat etc.
1. Uninstall everything you can to do with rave/EPC.
2. Restart and try again, but this time use the XP start menu taskbar to find a topic called Program compatability wizard ( help and support-fix problems- get older prog to work with xp- start program compatibility wizard)
3. For each of the directions for the RAVE CD, start them with the compatibility wizard.
4. When finished, the RAVE will make a 2nd user for XP, ( says ....required for job pricing) delete this, you don't use it. It unlocks the pricing feature for dealers.
5. Be warned, RAVE sets up a ... wait 2 minutes.... screen PRIOR to XP starting. Generally just click and proceed. You don't really have to wait, but it halts the auto start feature of XP (Annoying)
6. If you have the space, copy the contents of the rave cd onto the hard drive - makes it faster. Set the icon to the location of the folder on your harddrive, ...."RAVE.exe". The files might add a D:rave icon after you do this, but ignore it. Use the one you created.
7. RAVE will, if connected to the internet, may try to communicate with Unipart, so make sure you disconnect before using
8. Remember your firewall and anti virus may stop RAVE/EPC from working. Either make changes to the firewall, or disable for 5 minutes. ( Hence the disconnect advise)
Good luck
Any questions, send me a PM

Thanks for your responses, when I put in the CD, all that happens is file explorer opens, I've tried all your suggestions with no joy, I've even tried a fresh install of win95 and win98 on my laptop and couldn't get it working, so I guess it's not meant to be. Thanks again for your suggestions, I'm going to enjoy being part of this helpful, friendly forum.
You could always buy the one from this site - see emporium - even comes with instructions I believe.

Uninstall Acrobat 7 first. Install RAVE then reinstall Acrobat.
When RAVE opens it will use it's own version of Acrobat - Version 4
I have it running on my XP system - but I don't have Acrobat 7, only 5.
