Would be nice, but quote I got was $750 plus. A lot of money for basically putting in a couple of switches and a module hooked into the ecu.

I have not got a quote yet as he is still to tell me the supplier.
Next step for me is self install, so that should knock a couple of hundred dollars off.
I only want the box of goodies. Most of the price I expect is labour if you were qouted "installed".
Still, we have have to pay for development, and it is Aust made. Chinese dollars are smaller.

Have put the K mart ones ($200) on a number of different cars - some with magnets on the drive shaft, others tapped in the electronics - one with electronic throttle control - all still working great - the only disadvantage is the contols do not go on the steering wheel - either on the dash or on a steering column stalk. Good buy for $200.

Have you fitted one to a "fly by wire " car? eg the TD5. Remember there is no throttle pull wire to connect into.
I have fitted several including my old TDi 300 without drama.
Have a look on the Autron site. Apparently the TD5 is even different from the TD5 Disco. I do not know why.

What ever happened to the "brick against the throttle pedal" method ??

The "smart brick" has not been invented yet!
Old bricks just do not work properly up and down hills like the range.

Trev - as you would be aware, on a car with a throttle cable the cruise control cable normally piggy backs on the throttle cable or directly actuates the throttle at the throttle body. The cruise control pulls to open the throttle.

On cars like a TD5 or my Freelander Diesel there is no throttle cable but there a accelerator pedal - you simply connect the criuse cable to the accerator pedal so that the cruise control pulls the accelerator pedal rather than the linkages at the throttle body on older cars.

I haven't done the Freelander yet but I did this type of set up on a Mitsushiity Trito Turbo Diesel. It works pretty well.

I don't think the Autron Cruise control uses a vacuum system with a cable pull.
Using a different type of control system to pull the accelerator pedal is interesting. I'm guessing this would require a hole in the floor panel of the TD5 Defender to get the throttle to pull down, as the potentiometer is also mounted on the floor panel so that any access to leverage is almost non existent without modification.
One could always mount a cable quadrant to the potentiometer body and use a rotary action similar to the TDi throttle body.
I am still keen to check out the Autron unit visually before deciding which way to go. Thank you for the feedback.
