My Weekends Effort

With most of the items sorted out by the end of last week I decided to start putting some of the gear on the car.

A late start after lunch on Saturday  saw the old bumper come off and the ARB winch bar installed with virtually no issues except for the repositioning of one of the transmission cooler lines to allow the winch cradle to fit properly
    In the beginning

with rail mounts in pplace and bar ready to go on

The next item was the removal of the old stereo and replacement with new Kenwood CD, MP3, WMA head unit with remote and blah blah blah, a reasonable buy I thought for $250 and so far it seems great, time, vibration and dust will tell

Old unit out withe the help of 4 kebab skewers 8O

And the replacement, fitted straight in with no issues with the wiring

Things are going good, Sunday was oil change and snorkel time

An earlier start on Sunday, around 10am  well it is the weekend isnt it ops:

First up the oil change, still a messy job and I realised there isnt as much room under a disco as compared to a lifted defender

Components of a good oil change

Now to the snorkel, well suprisingly evrything went quite well, I tool plenty of time and cringed plenty when drilling the holes in that lovely paintwork, but I know that the raw cuts were well deburred and painted before the snorkel was fitted. The only real hassel I incounted was my airbox had been modified by someone previously by drilling 3 x 40mm holes 8O to improve airflow I would suppose and these had to be sealed, luckily this proved only a small delay to the whole install with the worst bit being the removal of the inner guard clips

    This box turns into

    a series of holes

which then fits hopefully (if you used the template correctly  )

During the week I intend to install the turbo timer and my UHF

And then I think I'll reward myself with a 4wd trip on the weekend 8)

No time like the present, plus the bits aint no good sitting around in boxes on the garage floor

I had intended to have the turbo timer and UHF in on the weekend too, but made the mistake of going shopping with the missus on Saturday morning which dragged on to having lunch out before I could get home and into it

    My Weekends Effort

    Well done mate looks good.

I found I cringed as well when cutting the panels for my snorkel(safari), but it fitted really well, and hasn't let me down yet, just a little corrosion on the bolts on windscreen pillar. (Installed in 1998). Looks like ARB changed the bar a little, with the rubber stops on the front and the cutouts on the vertical supports.

What type of UHF and antenna did you get? Must get one soon, and replace the AM/SSB set.
