Just a few people have said that their don't fold up like a hatchback. The first photo is of the base of the framing that runs behind my seats. THe top of this fram has tthers to lock the rear seats into place when not folded up. With my restraining bolt I removed one of the existing bolts and mounted the restraint there. I used that spot because if it failed then most of the rear seat and cabin reinforcing would have failed. I thought if the accident was that servere then there would be a train inside the cab with us and nothing would matter anymore.

Well, almost done.
Went off to Mascot Steel.
For $31 they cut me a piece of 50mmx25mm galvanised steel, 3mm thick wall.
Cut to length, plus a bunch of offcut spacers.
Less than it would have cost me for a piece of thin wall black steel from Bunnings. And saved me half a day with a hacksaw - and the attendant blood, swearing, and off-square cuts.
The fella downstairs loaned me his drill press for the seven holes - three for the anchor points, four for the mount to the truck.
The other fella downstairs offered to weld the bolts in place - I live in a warehouse, always someone useful around.
I'm going to clamp it in place to check the strap length and stuff, then I'm gunna get out my drill.
Hoo-ray.
I also thought that it might be possible to get the engineers certificate after all. Seems to me that the seats fold down, so I could access the anchor point of a child seat in place. I couldn't do it to both seats or all three seats at the same time, but that may not be part of the rules.
Simon.

Hey Simon,
How did you end up with the Child seat restraints project?
Any progress and if so which way did you go in the end?
Are you happy with the finished result?
Do you have any photos that you could post on the forum or pm to me?
For that matter does anyone else have any photos or details of such a thing as a child seat in a defender130?
Cheers,
Cameron

Rather than use steal bar, why not use some alloy bar so you don't have an galvanic problems.

Glad someone got back to this, I've been meaning to post.
The bar is in.
I lost about 2 months with the bar sitting in my landlord's garage after he offered to weld the nuts on for me. He got busy.
I eventually had the incentive of going away for the weekend to make it happen. Took it down to my mechanic and he did it for me. I could have done it better myself, and I can't weld. Good he doesn't do rust work.
I used 3mm thick wall galvanised steel, partly because the two uprights that I bolted it onto are steel, so no galvanic worries, and because the engineers I spoke to said that either you over-engineer it to such an extent that it can never break or be suspected of breaking, or they would have to stress test it.
They couldn't guarantee the survival of the vehicle under stress testing.
Worked a treat.
Total cost $60 or so, and most of that was in doubling up on HT bolts.
Best of all, the babies love and are asleep almost as soon as they get in, and the wife loves it too. Hi Simon,
Would like to see some photos as well.
Up to now I fitted the seats to the bolts shown in the picture of George. Just thought if might not be a very good idea to run the restrain down the seat - just too long.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Daniel

What I have done in mine is to mount a square steel bar across the top of the two black steel braces (the ones behind the rear seat going from the floor to below the windows) and putting mounting points on there. They are fully accessable while the seat is in position and easy to attach the seats to.
I have put a mount point behind each seat.
Has worked fine for me over the last few years.......
Cheers
