what I ment was you can change this fuel filter as often as you change the oil filter now - as the cost is much less, sorry for any confusion.

Thats looks like the type. I actually have this type under the bonnet replacing the origional steel fuel filter, very good.Originally posted by LRHybrid100
you mean this one:
can then change the $5 filter every oil change???

A note of warning to 130 owners, do not replace this filter with this type as where it sits along the chassis rail midway (TD5), water can crack the glass on wading (they get hot ?) and leak like a sieve, as happened on a trip to Gulf Easter 2004, we had to put my old steel one on my mates 130 to get him home. I believe a metal base can be bought to replace the glass base.
I've seen the sedimetre swap on a County 3.9DL, will try it on mine next service when I change filters & see if any better than without.
LRH by the way its a fuel filter I'm sure a typo on your partops:

Karcraft stock them and mail order, about $60 a carton of 12, but also sell singles. Most auto outlets like Auto One will order if they don't stock them. Also most tractor parts outlets stock them common on most deisel tractors.Originally posted by sclarke

Great Stuff....
I'll have to have a better look at mine.
Can you get the glass replaced with a tin bowl..
yep.Can you get the glass replaced with a tin bowl..
Our Fiat tractor uses two of those filters, one with the the glass bowl and the other with a metal one.
The filter was originally designed by Lucas/CAV who pretty much wrote the specs for modern diesel injection, and it still carries the original Lucas/CAV pt. #, with most nearly all manufacturers making a substitute. As was stated, any truck/tractor/diesel filter stockist will have them.
I think I'll grab an element next week and see if the stock sedimentor bowl will mate up to it.
The only potential problem I can think of is too much pressure drop on the suction side of the lift pump reducing flow or causing starvation.
Any toughts ?
