Agree mate. But i have expensive cargo i carry around. (family)
If i owned a car that old i would simply fit them.

You see the OP stated he put indicators on the car because people cant read hand signals. What about when some drunk driver vears on the wrong side of the road and your in a head on?
You end up 500 metres down the road after flying through the windscreen.
Or a truck driver falls asleep and collects you?
For me its about safety above model requirements.
I guess thats why i dont drive old cars.

You are correct though in that a ginger beers will cost a fortune and may well exceed the cost/worth of the vehicle.
Never be more costly than ones life however.

And this is why they have to be engineered If you just bolted seatbelts in they could fail causing something not so nice .
I understand your way of thinking but for the purist that restores their cars to a standard where they dont want them .
It amuses me that all this is a reqirement by some. Yes it save`s lives and is proven but the majority of us grew up with cars that did not have ABS,Air bag`s and seat belts and we all survived , I my self with 3 brothers and a sister and Mum and Dad + 3 dogs travelled all over the country in a Series 1 Landie with no saftey divices as such and survived with only my parents dying from old age

And thats why i said it would require a ginger beers.
I wonder if you had an accident and it killed some member of your family if you would think and different?
I myself have also never had a need for seatbelts in that i have never been in an accident that would warrant the need for them.
Im lucky as it appears you are. That does not mean they are needed!!

Given i have cargo that ultimately there lives are in my control i think a little different. There safety is paramount to me.
    Well beyond "factory" or "default".
Fact is the OP said he put indicators on it to suit "other drivers"
So i assume "factory" is not the requirement here rather passing roadies only.
Thus the "cargo" comment. Its more important to me than any roady.
