    300TDI REBUILD

I am considering rebuilding a 300TDI for my 97 130 in the not to distant future , & looking for some good advice .
I have a wreck with a motor that has supposedly only done 125k from new .
I want to end up with a very good motor & don't mind spending a little extra to achieve this. Is it worth refreshing the motor if it proves to be in reasonable cond. or should I just get it rebuilt & be done with it ?
Are there any better brands of rebuild parts . If a new head is required which ones are best? I have read a few posts that say they noticed little difference with the Turner performance head .
I have a VNT turbo & upgraded inter cooler on the old motor & performance is fine , but getting a bit tired at 450,000
Any good advice from those in the know would be much appreciated .

At 125k just drop it in with your go fast bits and keep the old one rebuilding.

Yes that would be nice , but I won;t know what cond. it is in unless i pull it apart .It is my work vehicle so would be nice to have it off the road as little as possible . I would hate to put it in only to find out latter that it is not what I had hoped for .

Late last year I did a rebuild.
I got +0.20 pistons, rings and bearings from turners for $708.
Clean, bore, deck the block, install cam bearings and crank grind was $530
Gaskets, cam belt and seals was about $400

Transferred the existing standard turners head to the new motor.
This engine replaced the original @ 440k, what a difference it makes.

With 125k on the spare motor, I would put that one in and rebuild your original engine.
If you rebuild your 450k motor, you may as well put a turners performance head on it. Every little bit of HP helps.

    Genuine pistons are Kolbenschmidt.
    They are very good quality.
Weights are incredibly consistent, as are the gudgeon weights.
The rings supplied didn't need the end gaps filed, and were right at the minimum gap.

Hepalite's aren't made in the UK, they are from Taiwan. They may be really good, but I don't have any experience with them.

Last big ends I used were King out of a Bearmach box. Can't comment on life, they've only done about 7500km so far.
