From what I've heard locally the erps systems come in a lot of different flavours and as with most things you get what you pay for. I've spoken to the local 4wd hire mobs as their vehicles obviously get about as harsh treatment as you can (eg driving through surf etc). Whilst I drive more sensibly than that as I don't wish to change cars every year, I know from experience that beach use is great fun but the harshness of the sand/salt can kill a car quickly over a few years no matter how well you spray it with oil etc and wash on return. (anyone wanna buy a used landfill oops I mean landcruiser?)
I've heard that if you're serious about beach work then you need at the very least 6 contact points, and that if you get a cheapy you may as well not bother.
Thanks for the link incisor - I've sent them an enquiry - will post the response here. basically I told them what I'll be using the disco for and asked for their recommendation and price.

OK hear is what my mate in FNQ does.....
Takes his troopy on the beach then a week or so later he takes a spin out to one of the high flowing Freshwater river crossings.....
Then all the salt washes away...... as does the interior and passengers...

I have had a look at a couple of the electronic rust suppression websites, and I'm sorry, but the science does not make sense, and the advertising has all the hallmarks of snake oil devices. With a reasonable amount of searching I was unable to find ANY independent support for the systems.

I do them as follows
Clean them properly and dry out. I then spray all inner cavities with Fisholene ie doors, sills pillars, guards, chassis, seams in engine bay etc. Leave to penertrate then redo with Tectyle over the top of the fish oil to seal (this also smells ok). Then spray the under body ie floor and outside of chassis with a couple of coats of Tectyle mixed with quick dry black enamel 4:1 mix, or Spetone under body rust proof. My car has no rust . I redo it every 2 years or so. Polish it with Meguires before and after a week on the beach. The car lives about 2km from the bay at Wynnum and is parked under a shade sail that really only stops Hail and sun, paint is sweet. Clear over base paints on modern cars don't really oxidise, solid colours are often 2K and do not have a clear coat so these will.
Sounds like it's effective Shaun - thanks for sharing the info! It's especially comforting to know you use the car on the beach and have found it works. As I'm buying a new boat that costs twice the car the boat gets the garage and unfortunately the car will be under one of those shade sail setups also, at least until I get a carport built (it'll be a while as I'll be out in the Disco and Boat too much to do much at home!) Insurance.... What is that??? he would not have any...
As promissed here's the response I got re the erps enquiry:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Thank you for your enquiry. For your vehicle I would suggest a C6 system. The cost of this unit is $456.50. The recommended retail fitting cost is $154.00 ( this may vary with type of vehicle and location). If you are using your vehicle in an Extreme Use situation eg: extensively on the beach. I would suggest you purchase the “C8 Beach Pack” ( consisting of a C6 + two extra Capacitive Coupler Packs, a can of Xtra-Cote, Lanolin and Paint Sealant). The additional products in the Beach Pack will help to protect the paint work and underside of your vehicle, and thus assist the electronic system to do it’s job. The cost of the Beach Pack is $489.00, plus 2 x Capacitive Coupler Packs at $25.30 each. Total price $539.60 plus fitting at $176.00.

The testimonials on thier site seem very good, I'm going to try to find some locals using the system to make sure (can't hurt)
