As far as I can determine from looking at wiring diagrams of alternators with the connection, it is a simple tap off one of the stator phases before the diode. It is the W terminal (if fitted).
The signal will be just AC - a sine wave.
That means it is a dead simple modification for any alterator - just solder on a bit of wire.
No modules are required.
Having said that, the tacho will need to be adjustable to be calibrated to the correct engine revs because the tacho measures the alternator RPM, not the engine RPM.
