    Tdi timing belts & housings

    Hi guys
has anyone had to change timing belt housing because of t-belt not aligning properly.
    just had t-belt done,injector pump recoed(was the problem with hard starting,two massive internal leaks,so i'm told),injectors cleaned.
got it back motor noisier than ever has been, no pull up hills, so tok it back
now have been told it needs new housing for t-belt as hasn't had modification done causing belt to scrub out( amazing it's been OK for 230 000 kms so far & two other t-belts) i pick it back up tonight. here's hoping it's all OK this time :?

If you've done done 230,000 km without a problem, then the misalignent problem has just occurred.
As for the power loss, it's possibly related to the injector pump and/or timing.

I also thought that lack of power indicates that they stuffed up the injector timing. Where did you take it, they sound a bit suss to me?

Over tensioning the belt will make them them walk off the gears and the lack of power will most certainly be they got the timing on the pump retarded.

    timing belt

What year is your model? If pre 97 it will have the belt guide flanges on the idler roller. This, combined with the stressed mounting of the fuel pump deflecting the REAR timing case caused the belt problems.
However, because this is a new development for you and the fact the pump has been off indicates correct reinstall procedure has not been followed. It is quite possible that misalignment of the pump is now running the belt off and scrubbing the edge.
When I did the first change of belt on mine the belt was in perfect alignment (90k.) However I drilled and tapped for a 3/8 bsp plug adjacent to the injector pump gear so I could keep an eye on things!
Lack of power certainly indicates retarded injection.

Got truck back last night, now running perfect.
didn't have housing changed, but had modified crank pulley put on.
problem fixed, was contemplating having motor recoed by these guys but not now, too much stuffing me around, when you have to travel 100kms each way gets a bit expensive let alone down time of vehicle, this excercise was in total 2.5 weeks. my disco is '97 tdi auto.
    now enough of that gripe,
