    Fuel pump is it gone?

    Hey Everyone,

Having some troubles with my 1999 td5 discovery same as Rory in previous thread basically idling like it has a lumpy cam and lacking power when accelerating coasts along ok but put your foot down feels like someone's left the choke on. Have replaced the injector harness and cleaned and check everything there including 3 thread repairs on the rocker cover (yay ) still same deal was about to order a fuel pump and injector washers for good measure but now not so sure if it's injector issues and I haven't got a nano com and don't want to just throw money and hope for the best. So is there a way to test the fuel pump ? It used to make a whirring sound with the ignition on not to loud but load enough you could hear it in the car. However it isn't making that sound anymore

    Thanks guys

Use the Nanocom guide to find someone near you with one and visit them.
But as you say no sound from fuel pump it is probably that.
Lift up the rear carpet and have a look, and maybe wiggle the connector, and or put a multimeter on it to see if there is power there.

I found when mine went that I couldn't get it to accelerate after start up and then eventually it would come good. It was like that for a day or two and then on a trip to Sydney it just died completely.

    Thanks everyone,
It was the fuel pump still the original in there 17 years old and 305000 km not a bad run. Threw a Lucas pump in see how it holds up bought the britpart tool to undo the retainer ring wouldn't have been able to undo it without it as it was tight as.
