P38 4.6 spat out coolant ??

changed the waterpump on the wifes RR on the weekend (more money bugger it )
(I changed a "on the way out" fan belt the w/e before and flet movement in the pump bearing so thought i'd change the pump before it went)
"almost" funny story after I noticed the waterpump bearing I told the good lady wife to keep an eye on the temp guage casue if pump lets go in a big way it could dump coolant & over heat, she said she always does watch guages (yeah right i'm sure) anyway conversation goes on and I say how I'll fix next (last) weekend but if it buggers up before I'll have to do on side of road wherever it breaks down (pain) and she looks at me blank??
then says "so what, if it overhaets I have to stop" 8O
I say umm YES what else where you going to do, she says "I don't know (keep driving??) why will it stuff something else if I don't stop" 8O
Anyway after I explined the principals of the internal combustion engine and how important coolant is she now knows to STOP

anyway Question
whats the CORRECT produre for bleeding air our 4.6 V8 (P38RR)
I thought I got it all out (blead though sensor) but I must have missed some cause
wifes first real drive picking kids up from school 20kms (I test drove sat but obviuosly didn't get it hot enough)
when the wife got home she pulled up and it proceded to spit the coolant out the overflow bottle
she swears temp guage was normal (half) and no coolant sapt out when she go to school only after she got home
at least she noticed and rang me and didn't drive it anymore
so I need to refill coolant and re bleed air
wondering car was on an slight angle in driveway ( to side) so perhaps that trapped some air? (only very small angle??)
(I used to put my Tdi nose first up a hill to get all the air out, at least they have a BIG plug on thermostat housing)

thanks
jase

Remove the overflow between the radiator and the header tank - at the radiator. Blow through to make sure it is clear.

Fill header until coolant flows of radiator overflow. Reconnect pipe from overflow to header tank.

If you don't blow that line out you will end up with an air lock. Also, by blowing the coolant out, you'll find out whether the hole at the header tank is blocked - mine was. I drilled the blockage out - if that hadn't worked it would have been a new header tank.

Never let the 4.6 overheat. It will stuff the motor. Ask me how I know.

Also note that the over-temp light on the dash is NOT connected to the Message Centre alarms so you won't know it has come on. I intend to modify my dash to give an audible alarm when that light comes on.

Not necessary on a P38A - coolant flows all the time, there is no heater tap on the coolant flow.

thanks for that
I knew the heater was ok (no tap on P38)
and my little breather return line to header tank is clear (I get a little trickle of coolant from it with engine running? I alway have assumed this was normal via water pump to keep the air out the system??)
so if there are no tricks i'm missing
I'll do it all again and see how I go
thanks
