    300tdi bypass.

    Hi ,just wondering whats the best way to tell if you have excessive bypass,and what to do,I'm not using excessive oil and the power seems ok.


    Have taken the breather hose off the turbo inlet hose, not legal but things are a lot drier, bit of a frustrating set up with these old buggers.

    I do a compression and leak down test while listening to the dipstick as a vent with the breather blocked off.

    I just undo the oil filler cap on the rocker cover and let it sit in it's hole, if it just bobbles around it's usually OK. If it gets shot off like a rocket, then there's some problem.
    I was getting some oil residue into the Turbo and intercooler, so I fitted a sealed catch can in the vent hose before the air intake turbo hose, will post a pic, haven't had a problem with oil in the intercooler since, Regards Frank.







    In the top pic the feed hose from the rocker cover cyclone feeds into the catch can about a 1/3 up from the bottom of the catch can.
    In pic 2 the can is full of that heavy duty scouring steel wool pad to catch the oil in the fumes.
    In pic 3 the cap is on and the outlet pipe comes out of the can near the top and feeds directly into the standard inlet hose fitting, also has a sight gauge on the side, Regards Frank.
