Got my new exhaust - 3" straight through, no muffler!!!

G'day Guys,

The Rangie has been in at my mates place, British and European Motor Works in Castle Hill, for a new exhaust and a snorkel.

The snorkel is a 3" exhaust pipe with 2 45 degree bends and a safari top.

Here's the best bit, while he had the 3" pipe out he built me a complete new straight through exhaust - no muffler just mandrel bend 3" exhaust.

I could not believe the difference - yes it sounds like a MACK truck, but the turbo spools to 14 PSI almost straight after jumping on the GO pedal 8O

I got back in the dark - so will take mix tomorrow

Rangie Tdi - is now MINI MACK

Good stuff LRH! So the lag is basically gone now? How the grunt? With the straight through, do you think the turbo will muffle enough for rego still?
Cheers

G'day Slunnie,

I think with a bit more fuel adjustments there will be hardly any lag at all.

The motor is otherwise standard - will raise the boost pressure and change the fueling once I have an EGT gauge, to be one before Xmas.

The grunt is great - pulls up hills better without having to change down.

As for rego, we'll wait till that comes around - I may have to put a glass packed muffler in if they fail it on noise levels :x

Best improvement I have done since putting new injectors in!!!

Hi LRH
Turbos really respond with no back pressure,as you have found they spool up much quicker. Our mitsi Trytoo has a 2 1/2" sytem with a straight thru muffler at the rear, the difference in HP increase was the comparison of turbo to non turbo as it was originally.
I reckon my TD5 Disco would really enjoy what you have done 8) 8) 8) 8)ONEDAY 8) 8) .At least Land Rover have done a bit of homework on the TD5 exhaust,it is bigger diameter than a 100 series tojo and doesnt have stupid sharp bends the tojo suffers from. You want to to see what a set of extractors and opened up exhaust does for a non turbo 4.2 toyota diesel, the factory should be well and truely embarassed ops: ops: ops: ops:

Mine loves the 3" Mandrel

I finally heard how it sounds from outside when my old man took it out the other day...I almost got hard ops:

Best thing I have done is the Bruce Davis Chip upgrade and the 3" zorst.

Not sure what the standard price would be - think about $600 supplied and fitted.

Mine is made up of purely of straight pipe with 45 / 90 degree bends and is custom welded in 2 pieces (same joining point as the old Disco one) and uses the same LR mounting points using 10mm rod - nice job!!!
