    Dash swap

Hi all, can anyone tell me if it is possible to fit a complete 2002 Extreme dash setup in to a 98-99 Tdi 300 Defender or at least the centre section where the CD and majority of switches are located. :?:

    Many thanks

It would probably even fit a series 3 ! The body really didnt change much in the td5's.

In short, yes it will fit fine!!!

Seen it done and have now got the parts to do it myself.

You need the lot... Vent knobs, everything, because you then need to cut the front lip of the "dash" down.

    Cheers

I prefer the older style dash. More shelf room.

The modern new fangled gimmicky TD5 dashes...[insert derisive snort of the confirmed luddite]

The old dash specification should be an option on the TD5s. In fact as I type Ive had a marketing brainwave. LR should offer a retro look Series 2 metal dash with the dials in the middle for Defenders. Because let's face it, Series/Defenders started looking like over appointed gin palaces when the Series 3 came out.

why the bloody hell would you go and do that, landrover dashes have gone down hill since s11a, my 98 d110 SUCKS. i'm slowly taking bits out not adding them. the best conversion i have seen was a s1 disco binical into defender, by Tom Sheppard, ex landrover guy, was in june 1999 land rover monthly. very neat. Mal story was doing a big fit out to a d130 td5 and had a hhell of a time fitting the switches to the center part had to pull 3/4 of the truck apart to get at it. god dam poms

screw you guys i'm going home!

Dash and Damn are the gentler words used whilst replacing, modifying or removing the subject of this topic.

LR started defender assembly with the ignition barrel then the dashboard and thereafter the rest of the vehicle.

Let sleeping dogs lie I say.

    Dash swap

Hi guys, thanks for the info. To answer Uniformed's question "Why"...... cos I wanted to buy a 99 Tdi 300 and my partner wants the 2002 extreme 'cos it's got a nicer dash'. I thought if I could change the dash we both win but no. Now it looks like she's going to get her way and we will be buying the extreme.
Am I doing the right thing????

    Once again thanks to all

it is easy to do . You just have to put the new center bit into you dash. Cut a few hole not many and job done. Over 2 years ago i put one in my 1991 defender 200 Tdi
This pic was 2 years after i had done it and was a winch challenge truck so it was beaten about a bit. I did it for the extra swiches for Lockers, lights and winches

Where abouts are you, if you are in Brisbane i can show you how easy it is to do
