    Respraying a Defender

I might be asking a silly question, but I am thinking of the possability of respraying my defender a lighter color - it is now dark blue. But I wonder if anybody has experience in the area namely:
    * Is the new paint as tough as the old and resistent to scratches?
    * What is a ballpark cost?
    * Should I proceed, is painting a lighter color going to work or should I stick to a darker shade?

Thnks in advance for any replies.

Paul, what is the reason for the change? Is it to reduce internal temperatures in summer?

Does your Defender have a white roof?

OK as an ex spraypainter panel beater.

    DONT

    why???

a full colour change so no one knows on a Defender is a full body job, not just the outside. Inside, underneith, engine bay........
    Its a huge job.....

Cost..... more than its worth for a decent job.
Minimum cost if you get a dodgy bloke and do the lot will be about 3-4k if you strip the interior and running gear.

Decent job that looks factory......... $10k is a starting point.

If you were to do just the outside and not anywhere else then you might get it for about $2k on the cheap or $5k for a good job.

Dont be fooled with the guys that claim they can do it for $799 it cant be done and will be so bad you rig is worth scrap.

Also 2 pac looks great off the gun and has a nice shine... But Acrylic is better long term and easyier to repair if you get a knock or dint.

    So after all that.

    DONT. its not worth it......

What are you wanting to repaint it for??

Ron, its dark blue whith a white roof at the moment, I was thinking of a very light grey all over as a good compromise for heat reflection and to make it look a bit better.

I have had nothing to do with respraying in the past but some of the points sclarke raises sound true to me and you are the expert, so I dont think I will go ahead with it.

    Thanks for the advice.

I wanted mine to be Tangiers Orange.

After all, I like things that a little bit different or unique.

i love the greay and black, but same here... even for me to do it it would be uneconomical.

Plus when the id tags state the colour and you go to sell it they get suspect when it is a different colour....

Blue is nice..... if you want to change it get it looking like a zebra with stick on transfers...... use the blue as black.............

    I like the blue.

Maybe heavy tint on fthe windows. There's a lot of glass.

How well does the tropical roof work on the older Series LR? I've thought of getting one for my County which has the external ribs on the roof.

I looked into for mine. To escape the baby poo brown colour. To get it done properly was going to cost a fortune. So brown it is.
