I've got some Trailcutter M/T 265/75R16's on my disco at the moment, are these considered an 'ok' road tire. Or would they have an adverse effect on economy and wear quickly while using them on the road on a daily basis?
also, is this size considered 31"? (i'm not sure how to work it out)

Hi Benzini, i have two sets of rims, one with 31in muddies and the other with 30in A/T's on less severe trips i leave the normal rims on and then when i really get out and play (not often enough) i whack the muddies on (they are only $100 retreads) i find with the larger diameter tyres on i have less power cause the increase the gearing, and i use quite a bit more fuel (this can be made to look worse than it is though as the larger tyres will make your odometer read incorrectly). I also find that this is better because if you trash a tyre off road there isnt as much of a rush to get it replaced as they are only your weekend tyres, if the budget is tight you can afford to wait a while.
If you do mostly road driving muddies will wear more aswell, plus they are noisy and arent as safe in wet weather driving on bitumen, they dont have as much grip so wont corner as well and your braking will be greatly increased aswell.
If you can afford it buy some more rims (mine were $100 for a set of 5 on ebay) and get some A/T's which are at the same overall diamter as the original tyres were when new, you will return better economy and your speedo and odometer will be more accurate. H/T's would be more safe and wear better but you would need to swap your rims everytime you went off road. Matt

My 235 x 85 x 16 are almost identical in diameter to your tyres. Use the tool in the previous post.Originally Posted by benzini

thanks for the advice Matt & Trev... That tool is pretty good once I figured out how to use it!the tyres I have on now are 31's M/T's , which I assume are muddies.. ?
I'll keep my eye out for some standard rims with A/T's or similar but it looks as though I'm going to have to get my clutch and possibly more fixed now, so on the backberner it goes...![]()
Mate, just do it a bit at a time you will get there, all i have added in nearly two years is a lift, new shocks and a in car UHF and the spare wheels and tyres which cost me all of $500. I will get where i want eventually, but whether or not the Disco is classed as historic then remains to be seen.Originally Posted by benzini
