Cd Changer - its gone!!

G'day all, here is a curly one. 8O
My original LR (Eurovox model 1060) 6 stacker needs replacing. The carrage system for it keeps jamming so its will not play and then just times out with errors - E 99.

What options do I have? I want to replace the unit which sits under the drivers seat with something that is much the same. I also don't really want to remove the head unit to replace the cable from the stacker.

So what info I would like is what stackers are compatable with the original LR head unit and would it be possible to wire up the stacker with the codes and wire colours.

I have removed the stacker from the Disco and have the following codes and colours.

LCH:WHITE
AGND:BLACK
RCH:RED

DATA1:BROWN
CLK1:GREEN
CLK0:LIGHT BLUE
DATA0:GRAY
DSP:YELLOW
RST:BLUE
MUTE:PURPLE

GND:BLACK(MATT)
NO DESCRIPTION:BLACK(GLOSS)
B.UP:PINK
ACC:ORANGE

It's not rocket science and it most likely can be done. There must be some pioneers out there who have done this all before me

You can get them fixed however isn't cheap. 8O

Why not buy another stacker that transmits to the radio through FM :?:

1) Remove head unit and changer. Sell both on ebay stating changer is giving a few errors.
2) Use funds from ebay sale towards a new head unit that can play mp3 format.
3) Encode all your music into mp3 and burn to disc. You should be able to get 150 songs per disc.
4) Store four discs in the car and wonder why you ever bothered with a changer .

Go here, ctrl F and search land rover. They mention some Sony stackers are compatible.

Or do a google search with your head unit model number and cd stacker or something similar and with a bit of data wading you should find some solutions.

Cheers
Simon.

Mate... I would just get an IPOD. That way you can have way more songs than you'll ever get in a cd changer, and you can do playlists etc etc. What's more I think Ipod are relativel cheap.

If you get an fm tuner you won't have to do any wiring and can use your existing HU. As a bonus, you can use this setup in all your cars

The iPod idea is really good - you can get FM transmiters for them so the car radio can play back the music.

If that is not convenient then the idea of using a stacker that feeds back through the RF is good. I had Kenwood unit that did that and it worked fine.

The big pluses are that you dont need to worry about compatability with the radio and you can move it from car to car easily. The big minus is that you dont have the use of the controls built into the radio unit: this tends to be offset by the fact that they usually come with a small remotecontrol.

The other good thing about the ipod is that they never skip on a dirt road. The cd player we have in the fender is completely useless once you hit dirt

I bought a JVC DVD player - head unit only no screen as yet.

The reason I picked that one is because it is a car radio/CD/MP3 player and DVD but it will also play MP3 from a DVD disk. Hence no CD stacker is needed - on a dual layer DVD I can fit up to 2000 mp3s. The disk stays in the unit and I don't have to carry any disks at all.

Sony and JVC make units that will play MP3s from DVD disks. Most of the others will only do it from CDs.
