Removing the motor from a Rangie

I am sure there are plenty of people who have removed a motor from their Landy. What I want to know is, can I remove the motor, g'box & t/C all in one go through the bonnet.
I have removed the radiator, bullbar, front grill and basically the entire fron to the car. I will also be using a forklift to lift it out so I can lift & go back.

Should I try it or not? 8O

I have removed the motor only and replaced it on an 86 Rangie and its as tight as a gnats ass...with the G'box and TC all in one go I'd say something will bend or break ..but saying that there is probably some mad muther here who has done it..

No worries if you remove the body from the chassis first.

If not then conventional wisdom suggests dropping the gearbox and transfer case if they need to be removed and then removing the engine.

On a old dunga like ours, especially with the LT95 lump, best off seperating them. I Tried this once but abandoned it because it looked a bit ugly or the potential of something happeneing was likely.

If you had the later Rangies with the ZF and seperate transfer, you drop the transfer (this is heavier than the ZF auto) then you can lift it out without doing so.

Have fun with those bolts on the bellhousing. The stubby rachet open enders are great for this, or an air rachet if you can get one in there (Rangies with body lifts are easier I have found )

Ok, Ok, sounds like I will have to do the two seperately. I have a body lift & an air rachet so hopefully the bolts on the bell won't be too bad.
I removed the crossmember today, now that was a bugger to get out and I reckon I had at least enough dir in it to start a new vegge garden.

i have removed motor and geaboxtransfercase in one hit it is possible but a lot stuffing around i mean alot
to replace it is easier to put the gearbox back in the car first then drop the motor in dont bother trying to take both out at once you will damage or break something

Not easy is it? The later Rangies with the ZF/LT230 set-up are but the old LT95 and 3.5 would be near impossible with the gearbox so heavy it certainly can get ugly

sorry, little late. Taking out a VM engine (4cyl diesel) complete with the LT77 after dropping the LT230 from it before. Crossmember is f...ing sh..., a jack between the chassis helps. A 300 Tdi goes in together with the ZF and a Borg Warner in one peace.
