Hey folks,
I have a disco 1 and see a lot of discos for sale that advertise that they have "Central Diff Lock" like it is some big deal.
My understanding was that in a normal part time four wheel drive (like my old toyotas) when 4wd is engaged it gurantees 50/50 power between front and rear diffs (like a land rover central diff lock).
Is this correct?
I was getting an overly computerized and made of plastic Isuzu MUX (not mine) out of a boghole the other day and noticed that all the engines power was going out one wheel and none was going to the other diff - even though the 4wd switch was selected. That looked to me like the MUX was an 'All Wheel Drive' even though it is sold as a four wheel drive... Looks like it has some fancy traction control system that doesn't just lock the transfer case!It was a pain because the front two wheels were on solid ground, whilst the two back wheels were in the mud and the front was getting no power. Makes me glad i own Landrovers and old yotas which would have just drove themselves out no worries.
Anyone know if old toyotas when in 4wd do in fact put 50/50 power between the diffs - or is this a land rover only type of thing?
Yeah the old hilux lsd is not working anymore. An airlocker in the back will be an addition i will add sooner or later. A solid front axle is on my wish list too!
